Installing Webmin on Ubuntu 14 and later

Webmin is a great web based way to manage any Unix/Linux server. There is no substitute for CLI interaction and in many cases this is much faster. Though if you want a GUI to administer a linux server, Webmin is pretty awesome to use. At one point, Webmin was in the official Ubuntu repositories but they felt it was a security risk and took it out. You will need to follow these steps to install Webmin on your Ubuntu server.

Add the webmin official repository:

Edit file /etc/apt/sources.list

Add the following lines:

Add the GPG key:

Update the sources list:

Install webmin

Allow the webmin default port “10000” via firewall, if you want to access the webmin console from a remote system.

Access Webmin console

Open up your browser and navigate to the URL https://serveraddress:10000/. The login page should appear. Enter the user name and password to log in to webmin console.
